Sufficient Transitions: Dreaming a New Dream (Part 4 of 7)

Telling the Truth is an act of Sufficiency. The Neutral Zone of a transition, the “gap” between events – of endings and beginnings – is some of the most fertile and open terrain of our lives, waiting for cultivation and ripe of creativity. Paradigm shifts occur in the neutral zone and start by telling the truth.

Breaking Free of the Money Trap (the final of a 4 part blog)

Over the past three weeks we have looked at what it takes to break free of our personal money trap: We stop letting the number in our wallet, trust fund, checking, savings and or our retirement accounts define us or our opinion of others. (part one) Understand how to be responsible about money without allowingRead the Rest…

if sufficiency is everywhere is it in the hospital?

I spent much of today at the hospital, waiting. I thought about bringing my computer and I did bring the book chapter I am writing and my crochet set. I was supposed to be there for two hours. Is that enough to occupy me I wondered? More than enough actually.  More than I could possiblyRead the Rest…

Sufficient Transitions: Assets Inventory (Part 3 of 7)

An Asset Inventory is taking stock of our non-monetary or intangible assets, the resources we have internally in ourselves including: spiritual, psychological and physical, as well as the resources available to you from your family, your community, previous experience, alliances and networks. Often when we do this, we discover sources of support we were not yet aware of or parts of our life had not yet considered something to appreciate.

Breaking Free of the Money Trap (Part 3 of a 4 part blog)

To break free of the money trap we start by stopping to define ourselves by the amount in our bank accounts (part one). We then understand when we are being responsible and when we are in Fantasy Land while keeping ourselves grounded in sufficiency (part two). The third and final step is to reallocate theRead the Rest…

Sufficient Transitions: Mourning (Part 2 of 7)

Consciously moving through a transition is an act of Sufficiency. If we flow through our change – accept the end, the murky gap, and the beginning of what is new – if we allow the change and all our feelings about it, if we do not resist, but honor what occurs as our unique process and response, then we are in Sufficiency. Mourning is the action of letting go, the active rewiring in our brain and of our habits. I assert that mourning, like any part of the transition process, is an act of sufficiency. Mourning’s function is to make room for something new to arise. To do this, we investigate and unpack our associations with the person, place or thing that we are letting go of and let go of those too. What are you making room for these days?

Breaking Free of the Money Trap (Part 2 of a 4 part blog)

When we are open to breaking free of money, when we decide now is the time to allow our lives to flow regardless of our monetary circumstances, we can take the second step in breaking free: Understand how to be responsible about money without allowing scarcity to dominate and without traveling to Fantasy Land. DuringRead the Rest…

Creating a Culture of Sufficiency

Gina and I had a call this week with a man, Alan Rosenblith, who created and directed a movie called The Money Fix (a must see if I do say so). He is working on creating community / virtual currencies.  He said the most amazing thing:  ”Currency is what we use to mark what weRead the Rest…

Sufficient Transitions: Change (Part 1 of 7)

Transition is the way we come to terms with change, the process of ways of being and behaviors that move us forward in our lives from the time before the change to the time after, like a bridge. Making a conscious transition is an act of sufficiency. Transition is inherently an act of trusting, of allowing, of creativity. Transition is about flow. The act of letting go and the process of acceptance are in many ways spiritual actions, and they can bring us to a new place of understanding the world. Transition can help heal us, make peace with past wounds, and focus on our passions.

Breaking Free of the Money Trap (Part 1 of a 4 part blog)

At the end of September I had the opportunity to lead a call about breaking free of the trap of money. I was reluctant to lead this call because I didn’t think I necessarily had the answers. I have not figured out money myself. Then I started to think about what would it actually takeRead the Rest…
