Given the global awakening around racial oppression and injustice after the deaths of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd, many leaders and organizations are asking:

What can we do?

How can we enact real and lasting change?

We need to examine racism from three vantage points—The Personal, The Interpersonal and The Structural—and address racism as the historical, vicarious, institutional and collective trauma that it is.

Like rings on trees, we carry the history of separation, alienation and injustice in our bodies. Through our bodies, we unwind the old and build capacity to remember the truth of the interdependent and interwoven nature of all of life.

We will start with context. Where we are today and how we got there. There will be an opportunity for you to learn what may have been hidden to you. More importantly, this phase will require you to look within. We will dive into our own history and context and understand from whence we came.

Given the trauma frame we are using, we will provide ample support and spend time building our capacity, attending to our own wounds with care, and deepening our ability to turn up the heat without collapsing. That said, you may find this a challenge. In fact, we hope you do. We invite that challenge.

If you are not sure this is your time, reach out and we can discern together if this course is a good fit.

As we examine how racism is embodied and begin to un-numb, we can build capacity for cross-race dialog that supports authentic relationships and deep belonging for everyone.

We live in layers of interlocking systems of oppression. Racism is part of a global system of exploitation. We will begin to understand how these systems require each other and build what Meg Wheatley calls an “island of sanity.” These seeds are the beginning of a new system.

"People are aware that they cannot continue in the same old way, but are immobilized because they cannot imagine an alternative. We need a vision that recognizes that we are at one of the great turning points in human history when the survival of our planet and the restoration of our humanity require a great sea change in our ecological, economic, political and spiritual values."

When you register for this course we will place you in a racial affinity group. We believe that it is important to do our own work with people with similar racial experiences before we move to the interpersonal work of cross-race dialogue.
