Lawrence James Jr. brings to his role at Seven Stones Leadership his thought leadership specializing in diversity, inclusion, and belonging (DIB), executive development, and executive assessment. With expertise in creating inclusive cultures where employees thrive, he works across sectors such as healthcare, energy, financial services, retail, and manufacturing. Lawrence is known for assessing and growing senior executive and high-potential talent, enabling many to advance to C-suite roles.
In his current role, Lawrence focuses on senior and high-potential talent development, inclusive leadership training, diversity strategy, and organizational transformation through his consultancy founded in 2021.
Previously, he spent 12 years as a partner at RHR International, where he developed a holistic model for growing diverse talent, detailed in his white paper “Journey to the Top: Developing African American Executives.” His innovative approach has made him a sought-after keynote speaker at conferences and corporate roundtables. He also co-edited a special issue of the Consulting Psychology Journal on Black leadership entitled “The State of Black Leadership: What Can be Done to Create Sustainable Change,” published in March 2023. Earlier in his career, Lawrence led LJA LifeLessons, providing mental health services and consulting for non-profits.
Lawrence holds a BA in psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, an M.Ed. in counseling psychology from Howard University, and a PhD in clinical psychology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He is a licensed psychologist in Illinois and a member of several professional organizations.
